22) Necessity : need, needn't, needn't have

  • İhtiyaç duyduğumuz şeylerden bahsederken < need > kelimesini kullanırız.
    need kelimesinden sonra to + INFINITIVE (eylem fiil) kullanılır.
      to INFINITIVE
    I need to go to the dentist's. (Diş doktoruna gitmeliyim.)

    he/she/it kelimelerinden sonra needs kullanılır.

    Mary she needs to buy some white paint.
    (Mary, beyaz boya satın almaya ihtiyaç duyar.)
  • Olumsuz ve soru cümleleri yapmak, kısa cevaplar vermek için do kullanılır.
    You don't need to go the the doctor's. (Doktora gitmelisiniz.)
    Mary doesn't need to buy any green paint.
    (Mary yeşil boya satın almamalı.)

    A: Do you need to go to the dentist's? (Siz diş doktoruna gitmeli misiniz?)
    B: Yes, I do. / No, I don't. (Evet. / Hayır.)
    A: Does Mary need to buy any brushes? (Mary hiç fırça satın almalı mı?)
    B: Yes, she does. / No, she doesn't. (Evet. / Hayır.)

  • Alma ihtiyacı belirtilirken de need kullanılır.
      OBJECT 
    Mary needs some white paint. Mary biraz beyaz boyaya ihtiyaç duyar.
    I don't need a new car. Yeni bir arabaya ihtiyaç duymam.
    Does Peter need any help? Peter hiç yardıma ihtiyaç duyar mı?
  • Yapmak ihtiyacı hissetmediğimiz durumları ifade etmek için needn't kullanırız.
    needn't kelimesinden sonra eylem fiil gelir.
    needn't kelimesi < don't / doesn't need to > kalıpları ile aynı anlamdadır.

    You needn't go to the shops. We have enough food.
    (Alış verişe gitmenize gerek yok. Yeterli yemeğimiz var.)

    You don't need to go to the shops. (Ayış verişe gitmemelisiniz.)
    Mary needn't buy any paint.(Mary'nin boya satın almasına hiç gerek yok.)
    Mary doesn't need to buy any paint. (Mary hiç boya satın almamalı.)

    You don't need your coat. It's not cold outside.
    (Paltonuza ihtiyaç duymazsınız. O dışarısı soğuk değildir.)
    Yanlış kullanım: You needn't your coat.
  • Geçmiş zaman için needed to kullanılır.

    They needed to clean everything before they started to paint.
    (Onlar boyamaya başlamadan önce herşeyi temizleme ihtiyacı duydular.)

    We needn't have lit the fire because it was a warm evening.
    (Ateş yakmamıza gerek yoktu çünkü akşam hava sıcaktı.)
    We lit the fire, but it was not necessary to light it.
    (Ateşi yaktık fakat onu yakmak gerekli değildi.)

    You needn't have bought any bread, Jim. There is plenty in the cupboard.
    (Ekmek satın almana hiç gerek yoktu, Jim. Dolapta bol miktarda var.)
    ( = You bought some bread, but it was not necessary.)
    ( = Biraz ekmek satın aldınız , fakat gerekli değildi.)
